Overview

The NSF-sponsored Expeditions project on Computational Behavior Science is hosting an 11-day summer institute on Computational Behavior Science intended to introduce computing researchers to the opportunities of developing tools to support the quantitative and objective measurement of human behavior. The Expeditions team has focused on the challenges related to autism and developmental disabilities, and we are developing tools and techniques for gathering and analyzing data in laboratory and natural environments. This initial summer institute is hosted by one of our close collaborating partners, the Center for Discovery, where we have installed a unique laboratory to gather multisensory data in a live classroom environment. Students and faculty involved in this summer institute will work closely to better understand the challenges and opportunities of computational behavior science in this domain, working on data that has been collected over the past year. In addition, attendees will receive first hand experience in interacting with this fascinating population of individuals in a unique and warm environment.

Course Description

The institute will include lectures as well as hands-on projects using existing tools for manipulating and analyzing computer video, speech and physiological signals. These lectures and projects will all be situated in the context of data collected within the Expeditions project both at Georgia Tech and at the Center for Discovery.

Shuttle service from The Center for Discovery will be coordinated to accommodate transportation for those who are able to fly during certain times. Stephanie Tofighi will send out additional information to those students who register.
